How to identify fake news

No.1 — Check the source

While checking the web address for the page, you may notice spelling errors in the URL or use less known domain extensions such as ".infonet" or ".offer". This is a characteristic that a fake news site may have.
If you are unfamiliar with the site, look in the "About Us" section.

No.2 — Check the author

Research the author in order to see if the site is authentic. Look up if they are real and if they have a good reputation.

No.3 — Check other sources

Check if other professional, reliable and trustworthy news sources have already reported on the story. Professional news agencies have editorial guidelines and extensive resources for fact-checking, so if they are also reporting the story, that is a good sign.

No.4 — Check the images

The images that you see on these sites could have easily been edited with the goal of deceiving people. Look for wavy lines, strange shadows, jagged edges or the lack of details.
Keep in mind, an image may be accurate yet it could have been taken out of context. In these cases you can use tools like Google Reverse Image Search to check where the image originates from and/or if it was altered.
